I am from Jeep Wranglers, Realtree Camoflage, and Titleist Golf,
From the house where you will see us sitting out by the fire in the summer telling lies.
From the Jones' and the rolling hills of West Virgina,
and the Martino's who came from the coast line of Sicily.
The big family Sunday dinners, where you are made to eat, even if you just did.
From the competitive golf matches and fishing tournaments that you cant live down if you lose.
Always being taught to do the right thing, and protecting your name.
The cross that I wear around my neck, and from the cathedral I go to every Sunday for mass.
From the belief you can't have spaghetti and meatballs without having fresh Italian bread.
From the service of my grandfathers in which they gave our country. One being a fighter pilot in WWII and the other serving in the Korean War.

Cultural difference/ Cultural deficit
The first video reflects more of a cultural deficit perspective. Cultural deficit means the language they speak is an inferior language and is not acceptable. The reason I say the first video is a deficit because the teacher was trying to eliminate the way the kids talk. Saying "ax" instead of "ask" is just the tip of the iceberg in his battle to get the students to speak Standard English. In my opinion the teacher in the Ebonics video was not open to allowing any form language besides Standard English. That's why I feel it's an example of cultural deficit.
The code switching video was an example of cultural differences. Cultural difference is a more accepting view of different languages. The code switching video understood the importance of speaking in Standard English, but they also realized that people in different cultures communicate differently. Being understanding and open to different forms of language is important because if you go into some cultures and just speak Standrad English you might as well be speaking Chinese. The speakers in this video were talking about how kids may have to learn first in their "slang" language before learning Standard English. The people in this video felt that it was ok to talk in their own version of language when they are among their peers, but when they are in a business or professional setting it is important to speak in the Standard English. This is why I feel this video is a better example of cultural differences because they didn't think other forms of English were inferior.
